A NEW BIG COVER UP! Or, a small extension of the garden shedDate:

General Updates
Latest Update (25/10/2025) – The extension is now virtually complete and the first rack for storing timber has been installed and some of our longest lengths of timber loaded up. The prime intention of this extension is to consolidate all our timber stocks in one place in an orderly and environmentally sound manner. We've already found it will also be quite a pleasant spot on a hot Summer's day, so maybe a small fridge and an outdoor setting to give us a more comfortable work space?
Ever since the Woodwork Shop was erected in 2014, there's been discussion about covering the area between it and the Carriage Shed. Lots of talk, but until now, no action. Times have changed and John Schmitzer has taken on the task of managing the erection of a covered area which will allow us to store timber and other items out of the weather. Now, John has a seemingly never-ending list of “mates”, some of whom have come in handy, saving us money on buying new materials for this project. A few weeks ago, he turned up with enough roofing “offcuts” to do the job, courtesy of a mate who'd built a giant shelter at Sutton for caravan owners. He also scavenged around the Museum and found all sorts of goodies to use. We have had to spend some money on materials, but nothing like what we would have had to pay if it was all new. Well done, John! Not only that, but John's really got stuck into it.
Last Wednesday (30/7/2025), he poured footings for 3 uprights and on Thursday (31/7/2025), the first purlin was attached to the Carriage Shed wall. I daresay there'll be more action in the next few days, but for now, enjoy the two pics taken last week.
