Volunteering Opportunities
Canberra Railway Museum is entirely volunteer based. New volunteers are always welcome and no particular skills or experience are required. If you’re willing to get stuck in, there’s plenty to do!
Working days are held at the museum on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The tasks undertaken on work days typically include:
- Repair and restoration of heritage railway carriages
- Maintaining the tracks within the museum yard
- Woodwork and metalwork
- Gardening and lawn mowing
- Museum site maintenance and clean-up
Volunteer guides and museum shop staff are most welcome. Guides will be provided with comprehensive information regarding our collection - you don’t have to be an expert already to be able to assist on museum open days! Museum shop staff will be provided with training on our Square system.
Canberra Railway Museum is open every Sunday and on ACT public holidays from 10am-3pm. The Museum is also open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 10am-3pm during school holidays and Floriade.
If you have any particular skills that would assist the Canberra Railway Museum, it would be great to hear from you. Skills like fundraising, trade skills, photography, event management, archivist, exhibits, grant application writers, etc.
Please complete the Register your Volunteer Interest form and we will be in touch.
Volunteers are encouraged to become Canberra Railway Museum members if they decide to continue volunteering. See Membership Benefits or go straight to Join or Renew to become a member of the Canberra Railway Museum.
